The interdisciplinary faculty in the Department of Health Outcomes and Behavior (HOB) conduct research related to the prevention, detection, and control of cancer through the study of health-related behaviors, health care practices, and health-related quality of life. Specific examples of research areas include tobacco dependence, cancer-related health disparities, quality of life among cancer patients and survivors, and health economics related to cancer-related interventions.
Much of the work is translational in nature. The work moves advances in theory and research to the community and patient populations for application and evaluation.
The wide range of methodologies used includes:
- human laboratory-based studies
- survey research
- qualitative research
- economic evaluations
- meta-analyses and systematic reviews
- randomized controlled trials
HOB faculty members collaborate extensively with clinical and basic scientists, as well as with members and organizations within the community.
