Some brain cancer patients may fear recurrence. Most cancers that recur do so in the first two to three years following treatment, while others can emerge years later. The neuro-oncology team at Moffitt follows up with our patients on a regular basis to help them remain cancer-free.
Through diagnostic imaging such as CT scans, MRIs, mammograms and bone scans, we can obtain an accurate picture of a patient’s health. As part of our comprehensive follow up individualized patient care plan we look at tumor markers, blood tests that show a marked elevation of elements indicative of the return of cancer, as well as bone marrow biopsies and routine blood tests.
To combat the emotional struggle cancer survivors face, we offer support groups to help you overcome recurrence fears. Our Integrative Medicine Program offers yoga, massage, tai chi, and acupuncture, which also help alleviate stress.
